渡口の浜 白い砂
Magimoto Beach is a hidden beach at the east end of Shimojishima, located across a channel (inlet) from the popular Toguchi-no-Hama. Near Noose Bridge, powder-fine white sand the same as Toguchi-no-Hama continues for about 230m. Its greatest appeal is that few people visit, so you can fully enjoy the beautiful sea in private-beach-like quiet. Walking to the far end of the sand, there is a cave in the rocks, where you can enjoy a fantastical scenery that changes expression with the tides and the clouds. It is a natural, untouched coast with no facilities, toilets or dedicated parking, a little-known hideaway. It is a spot recommended for those who want to slowly savour an untouched spectacular view, or seek the un-commercialised sea typical of Irabu Island and Shimojishima.

Visiting tips & what to bring

It is a natural coast with no facilities at all such as toilets, shop, showers or parking. Bring drinks and sun shade. Facing south, the waves can rise on days with a strong south wind, so caution is needed for swimming. When walking to the cave you pass over rocks, so marine shoes or easy-to-walk footwear are reassuring rather than beach sandals. As there is little shade, do not forget a hat, sunscreen and hydration. There is no lifeguard or rescue system, so avoid forced swimming and enjoy it at your own responsibility.

For families with small children

With no facilities at all and no place for toilets or nappy changes, it is unsuitable for families with small children aged 0 to 6. The sand itself is fine and beautiful, but reaching the cave requires walking over rocks with poor footing, and the waves rise in a south wind. There is no lifeguard either, so safety consideration is needed. A short stroll or sand play is possible, but for a child stay involving full swimming, Toguchi-no-Hama is more reassuring.
