Insha (Uminchu) no Eki Sarahama | A Cooperative Direct Shop and Diner at the Port (Irabu, Miyako)

Sponsored
This is a direct-sales shop and diner within Sarahama Port (Sun Marine Terminal), run by the Irabu Fisheries Cooperative. Cherished as "Insha (Uminchu) no Eki Sarahama", its appeal is the fresh seafood unique to a fishing town where most of Okinawa Prefecture's bonito is landed. At the adjoining "Obanmai Shokudo", you can taste seafood bowls and zuke (marinated) bowls (from 900 yen) using bonito and tuna just landed at the port in front, and fish tempura. It is a style of choosing side dishes at a self-service corner and paying at the till, with cash-only payment. At the direct-sales shop you can also buy landed fresh fish and processed products. It is a locally flavoured gourmet spot where you can enjoy fisherman fare affordably while gazing at the fishing port. It is open 11:00 to 15:00 (L.O. 14:30), closed Tuesday. Being popular, it may end once sold out.

Visiting tips & what to bring

As it is a facility within the fishing port, the open-air parking has rough-paved sections in places. Easy-to-walk footwear is recommended. Being popular it is crowded at lunchtime, and fresh seafood may end once sold out, so an early visit is reassuring. As payment is cash only, prepare it in advance. As you walk outdoors with little shade, a hat and drinks are comfortable in summer. You can use the toilets within the terminal.

For families with small children

It is a self-service diner within the fishing port, and while a pushchair needs some care over the parking-lot steps, you can dine at seats, an easy facility to use even with small children. With easy-to-share menu items such as seafood bowls and tempura, and a fishing-port view where you can see just-landed fish, it can be a good experience for children. Note that it is closed Tuesday and cash only.
